Dr. Yvonne Brockington peacefuly passed away in her sleep September 28, 2022, and is now with the Lord.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Services are 2 p.m. Friday, October 7 at Trimble Funeral Home Moline, Illinois, with visitation on hour prior. Following the Service will be a repass in the lower level of Trimble Pointe CityView Celebrations, with horderves and refreshments.
Yvonne was born in New Orleans in 1937 and moved to E. Moline with her parents where she graduated from UT in 1954. She was an accomplished violinist, receiving a scholarship offer to Illinois Wesleyan University. She decided to pursue other interests, then married Ray Gaddis in 1959 and spent time as a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. In 1971 she received her B.S. in nutrition from the San Francisco State University. She bore two children Valerie and Vincent. Later, continued her education, receiving her Masters in Counseling Psychology from Farleigh Dickinson University and later her Ph.D. in Psychology from St. Louis University.
Yvonne is in the book of “Whose Who.” She was a member of 2nd Baptist Church of Rock Island, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. The NAACP and the Eastern Stars.
After divorcing Ray, she returned to the Quad Cities and moved from counselor to Dean to Vice President of Student Affairs at Palmer College of Chiropractic where she started in 1981 and retired in 1999.
She married Henry Brockington in 1982, who was the love of her life.
An avid reader, she was part of a book club, "The reading group," that read both fiction and non-fiction books, and met monthly for over 30 years. She enjoyed the NYT daily crossword puzzle, was an avid 'Star Trek' fan, and loved spending time with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Carmelite Lewis (Rollins) and Ralph Jonas Lewis Sr.; her siblings, Carolyn Harris and Ralph Jonas Lewis Jr.
She is survived by her siblings Deloris Morris (Kenny), June Stewart (Wilson), Cheryl Bourdeaux and her children, Valerie Berryman and Rev. Dr. Vincent Gaddis (Cathaleen), 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and a host of family and friends.
Her journey on this path has ended and she now enjoys the greater journey with Jesus Christ, her Lord and Savior.
