Wilma K. Mitchell, 90, of Silvis, Illinois, died Saturday, October 12, 2024, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Services are 11:30 a.m. Thursday, October 17, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with Rev. Justin Beach officiating. Visitation is from 9:30 a.m. until time of services. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to First United Presbyterian Church, Moline, or Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House.
The former Wilma Kathryn Edwards was born February 25, 1934 in Macomb, Illinois the daughter of Wayne Elmo and Juanita May (Deeter) Edwards. She graduated from Moline High School in 1951 and went on to marry the love of her life, Ronald L. Mitchell, on August 29, 1953, in Rock Island. He died April 16, 2002.
Wilma was a dedicated member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Moline, where her strong faith and commitment were evident throughout her life. For over 50 years, she actively participated in the ladies' bowling league at Highland Park Bowl. She coached for Silvis Girls Softball and served as a Den Mother for her sons' Cub Scouts, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of many children.
Family was at the heart of Wilma’s life. She found joy in camping, dancing, and traveling to Colorado, creating cherished memories with her children and grandchildren. An avid sports fan, she passionately supported the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Denver Broncos, the University of Illinois Fighting Illini, and the Quad City Mallards. Wilma especially admired Caitlin Clark, cheering her on through every game.
A member of the “51 Club,” a group of her high school classmates, Wilma looked forward to their monthly lunches, celebrating lifelong friendships and shared memories.
Wilma is survived by four sons and daughters in law Wayne and Teri Mitchell of East Moline Illinois, Jeff and Barb Mitchell of Hampton, Illinois, Chris and JoNita Mitchell of Silvis, and Shawn and Cindy Mitchell of Winchester, Kentucky; and many beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her parents; her husband; a brother, Elmo Edwards; and a sister, LaVerta Springer.
