Willie D. Holmes

Willie D. Holmes, 91, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at St. Anthony’s Nursing and Rehab Center.

Services are 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 29, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. Burial will take place following at Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. 

Willie David Holmes was born on March 7, 1935, in De Kalb, Mississippi, the son of Jeffrey and Mary (Nicholson) Holmes. He married Barbara Jones on June 27, 1972, in Rock Island, Illinois, and together they shared 53 wonderful years of marriage. He worked for many years at John Deere before retiring.

He was a lady’s man that loved his nickname “Willie too-sweet”. You could often catch him riding his bicycle all over town, as he enjoyed the time. He also loved his family and being in their company. He also had a love for a camera and was not shy at all when it came to his photo.

Willie is survived by his beloved wife, Barbara Jones; children, Yvonne (Dennis Drummond) Brooks, Cynthia Gay, Curtis (Mildred) Brooks, Charles (Brenda) Jones, and Michael (Tyra) Jones; Goddaughter, Crystal Parham; 14 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Ezelle (Mary) Holmes; and a sister, Tommie Kirkendoll. He was preceded in death by his son, Toney Brooks; grandson, Remo Brooks; parents, Jeffrey and Mary Holmes; and brothers, Alvin and Jimmy Holmes.
