Vincent Melvin Johnson was born December 6, 1958, in Centreville, Illinois, the son of Robert and Delano (Johnson) Johnson. He earned a degree in water filtration from Southern Illinois University – Edwardsville and went on to work as a water filtration operator for over three decades. He spent 13 years working for the City of East Moline before continuing his career with Iowa American Water for more than 20 years, retiring in 2021.

Vincent married the love of his life, Angela McBride, on January 14, 1997, in Davenport, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with over 38 years together and 29 years of marriage, built on love, faith, and devotion.

He was a faithful member of New Life Apostolic Church, where he served in the brotherhood and Sunday School departments and was known as the church’s unofficial poem reader. Vincent had a deep love for sports and was an avid fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, the University of Illinois Fighting Illini, and the East St. Louis Sr. High School Flyers.

Above all, Vincent cherished his family. He found great joy in family gatherings and was immensely proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were truly his pride and joy.

Vincent is survived by his beloved wife, Angie; seven children, Vincent Wade of Davenport, Rolando (Angie) Wade of Belleville, and Marcus Ryan, Flemeka Lewis, Flemming Lewis, MarQuail Houston, and MarQueesha Houston, all of Davenport; 13 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his siblings, Sandra Johnson of Alton, Illinois, Mary Johnson of Swansea, Illinois, Donna Barnes of Cahokia Heights, Illinois, Keith (Liliana) Johnson of Reiskirchen, Germany, Matthew Johnson of St. Louis, Missouri, Ada Johnson of Collinsville, Illinois, Anthony Johnson of Davenport, and Michael Johnson of Belleville; his brothers-in-law, Ricky (Darlena) McBride of Spring, Texas, and Rodney McBride, Jr. of Davenport; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and very dear friends.

The family would like to give special thanks to UnityPoint Hospice and Rodney McBride, Jr., for the wonderful care given to Vincent.
