Victor G. Saldivar, 76, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 10, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family.
Private services will be held. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home, with burial at Rock Island National Cemetery.
Victor George Saldivar was born February 13, 1949, in Holy City, Bettendorf, Iowa. He was the eldest of seven children, to Victor "Nino" and Wanda (Lopez) Saldivar.
He attended Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School, and Bettendorf High School. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in January 1967. During his time in the Marine Corps, Vic completed Vietnamese Language School, Radio Operator School, survived multiple combat tours, receiving two Purple Hearts. He was honorably discharged in 1975.
He met his wife, Carol, while home on leave. They celebrated 48 years of marriage in February and have two awesome children.
Vic faced a period that tested his resilience and reshaped his understanding of justice, redemption and human dignity. He carried the discipline of the Marine Corps into that chapter, pursuing higher education and advocacy work. He earned his Bachelors Degree in Paralegal Studies from Marycrest University, and his Masters of Education from St. Ambrose, Counseling Adults in Agency.
He was active in the local community for decades. In the 1980s he was a leading member of a Vietnam Veterans group. Memorial Day Weekend, 1982, he and two other members of the group walked from Rock Island, Illinois to Des Moines, Iowa to bring awareness to those suffering from PTSD and the effects of Agent Orange.
In later years, he volunteered with the local Better Business Bureau, Scott County Small Claims Court, served as an officer for LULAC Council 10, the Davenport Civil Rights Commission, and was a board member for River Bend Transit.
Vic worked for 15 years as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor for the State of Iowa and was an adjunct professor at Scott Community College (Belmont Campus and North Scott High School).
He is survived by his wife Carol, daughter, Mandy (Freddy), and son, Andrew. He will be greatly missed.
