Valerie C. Ries

Valerie C. Ries, 72, of West Burlington, Iowa, formerly of Moline, Illinois, died Monday, October 31, 2022, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City.

Graveside services are 11:30 a.m. Monday, November 7, at Rock Island National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should meet in the parking lot at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, at 11:15 a.m. Immediately following burial, the family will greet friends at a memorial luncheon from Noon to 1:00 p.m. at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe. Memorials may be made to Michael Ries for a fund to be established in Valerie’s memory.

The former Valerie Charlotte Bach was born September 14, 1950, in Plaster Rock, New Brunswick, Canada, the daughter of Peter and Alvina (Puck) Bach. She married the love of her life, Michael Ries, on December 21, 1968, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Moline.

She worked for Graebel Van Lines for many years. She enjoyed beadwork, crocheting, knitting, and became especially interested in politics in recent years. Above all else, family was the most important thing to Valerie.

Valerie is survived by her beloved husband, Mike; a daughter and son-in-law, Emma and Larry Grunenwald-Ries of Madison, Wisconsin; a son and daughter-in-law, Jeff and Rhonda Ries of Champaign, Illinois; six grandchildren, Kelsey, McKenna, Jack, Jacob, Sean and Riley; siblings, Debbie (Harry) Beck of North Carolina, Sandy Pannella of New Jersey, and Curt (Reatha) Bach of Iowa; a special cousin, Margie Kline and Barb Swenson; and a special friend, Dwight Zvonik. She was preceded in death by her parents.
