Terry L. McCleary

Terry L. McCleary, 74, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Monday August 25, 2025, at Friendship Manor, Rock Island.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.

Terry Lee McCleary was born on April 21, 1951, in Muscatine, Iowa, the son of Burdette and Leona (Beckman) McCleary. He graduated from Rock Island High School and went on to work as a heavy equipment operating engineer at Allied Stone Company for over 30 years. He married Carol Hargrave in 1971, and the two remained friends after separating.

A proud member of the Operating Engineers Local 150, Terry had a lifelong love of mechanics. He especially enjoyed working on tractors, but never shied away from fixing a car or anything else that needed repair. His happiest hours were often spent in his garage, his favorite place to be.

Terry is survived by his sons, Robert (Amanda) McCleary and Mike (Jillian) McCleary; grandchildren, Samuel, Norah, Zachary, and Tyler McCleary; and friend, Carol Shoup. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Richard and Gary McCleary.
