John T. McKeag, 69 of Illinois City, died Monday, May 28, 2007 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island, surrounded by his loving family. Funeral Services are Thursday at 10:30 AM at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Burial with Military Honors will be in Davenport Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church, Moline or Quad City Animal Welfare of Milan.
John Thomas was born on August 14, 1937 in Moline, Illinois to Dale D. & Bessie (Banscher) McKeag. He married M. June Stewart on April 14, 1963 in Moline. She preceded him in death on April 13, 2006.
John was employed with ALCOA for 29 years, retiring in 1993. He had also worked for Oscar Mayer for 6 years.
John was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving active duty from 1956-1960 and Naval Reserves from 1960-1962.
John was a member of the First Christian Church, Moline. He was a devoted grandfather who also enjoyed birdwatching, gardening and never lost his sense of humor, despite his illness.
John is survived by his children and their spouses: Debra S. & Richard T. Landi of Milan and Brian T. & Catherine McKeag of Moline; 4 grandchildren: Justin, Colton and Alyssa Landi and Breanna McKeag; 2 daughters and their spouses from a previous marriage: Scarlet & Paul Lams and Melody & Jim Mote and their families, all of Milan; 2 brothers and sister-in-law: David D. McKeag of Sherrard and Roger D. & Becky McKeag of Rock Island; a sister and brother-in-law, Janet E. & Jim Salsman of Coal Valley and a brother-in-law and his wife, Cliff & Mary Stewart of Rock Island. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brother, James A. McKeag and a brother-in-law and his wife, Donald & Myrtle Stewart.
The family would like to thank Friendship Manor for the wonderful care given to John.
