Sidney A. Machalek

Sidney A. “Sid” Machalek, 75, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Monday, May 26, 2025, at Generations at Rock Island.

Private services and burial will be held at Greenview Memorial Gardens, East Moline. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.

Sidney Alden Machalek was born September 18, 1949, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of William and Lucille Josephine (Pinard) Machalek. He served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1972 and was stationed in Germany. He married Betty Stone, with whom he had a daughter, Arminda, prior to separating. He later married Brenda (Dawson) Lindsay on April 16, 1988. The couple shared nearly 20 years together prior to her passing on October 11, 2007.

He worked as an electrician at the Rock Island Arsenal for most of his career. He enjoyed model rockets and trains, and playing chess. He loved spending time with his siblings and had a special bond with his nephews and nieces.

Sid is survived by his sister, Taina Machalek; sister-in-law, Jean Machalek; step-son, Tim Lindsay, Sr.; grandchildren, Tim “Shawn” Lindsay, Jr. and Alexis Vrana; and nephews and nieces, Godson, Michael Melchi, Gabrielle Machalek, Darrell Machalek, Jr., Deon Machalek, Wendy Auliff, Lori Amerine, Connie Enoch, and Lisa Slocum, Marcus Machalek, Scott Machalek, and Amy Machalek-Taylor, Megan Mata-Hughes, Shari Cole, and Daryl Mears; and his daughter, Arminda, and her children. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Brenda; and siblings, Darrell Machalek, Sr., Duane Machalek, and Georgia Hughes.
