Sidney J. Matlick, 71, of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Thursday, April 29, 2021, at home with his loving wife by his side.
Visitation is 4:00 to 6:00PM Friday, May 7, at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, followed by a memorial service at 6:00PM. Private burial will be in Coal Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.
Sidney Junior Matlick was born July 11, 1949, in Rock Island, to Sidney Glen and Lucille (Lingenfelter) Matlick. He met Luann Clary on a blind date in 1998 and the couple was married on September 4, 2008, in Rock Island. He worked for the East Moline Correctional Center as a stationary engineer. Following retirement he ran his own lawn care business and worked for Moline Welding.
He enjoyed fast-pitch softball, karaoke, and playing Belgian Vogelpiks (Piks). He was a die-hard New York Yankees fan, a grill-master (known for his ribs), and played in a band in his younger years. He will be remembered for his “Sid-ism’s”. Above all else, Sidney loved spending time with his family.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Luann; children, Jamie (Scott) Ackerland of Preemption, Jennifer Matlick of East Moline, Amy Matlick of Davenport, Amanda (Doug) Gross of New Bern, North Carolina, and Sara McColl of Coal Valley; daughter-in-law, Darla Matlick of Geneseo; grandchildren, Taeylor Matlick, Kadie Wilson, Dylan Matlick, and Dakota and Wyatt Ackerland, Mason and Montgomery Matlick, Tyler (Britt) Root, and Devin (Emily) Bertrand, Kylee and Ashtyn Vandersnick, and Tyler Gross; great-grandchildren, Cayel, Hunter, Gavin, Rylee, McKenzie, and Bennett; siblings, Gilbert (Rosie) Matlick and Terry (Sheryl) Matlick; brother-in-law, Michael Clary; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Jeffrey Matlick; grandson, Sidney McColl; and brother, Dale Matlick.
