Shawn T. Duncan

September 23, 1969 — May 30, 2026

Rock Island, Illinois

Shawn “Schon” T. Duncan, 56, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed Saturday, May 30, 2026, at his residence.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. Memorials may be made to the family.

Shawn “Schon” Travis Duncan was born September 23, 1969, in Moline, Illinois, the youngest of three boys to Joseph and Karen (Beard) Duncan. He graduated from United Township High School in East Moline, Illinois. He married Kathleen Karlix on April 1, 2000, in Rock Island, Illinois, and together they shared 26 years of marriage. Kathleen preceded him in death on April 27, 2026, just 33 days prior to Shawn’s passing. The two are now reunited for eternity.

He worked at Hardi North America for 15 years, but kept his love of being an muscian going through his whole life. Starting in high school, Schon had a natural gift for music and could pick up and play about any instrument by ear. His best instrument came within himself, as a singer. Throughout his life, he performed with numerous local bands in the Quad Cities, most notably Threshold, where he spent many years sharing his passion for rock music with audiences and friends alike. He also enjoyed his weekends at the Corn Crib cooking for his BBQ business. Outside of working, he enjoyed building and hands-on projects around the house, model trains, and model cars. He was a great neighbor, enjoyed spending time with friends, and loved getting to see his granddaughter.

Schon is survived by his daughter, Kayla (Emily) Evans of Milan, Illinois; step-son, Brian (Jennifer) Custer of Barrie, Canada; granddaughter, Ryleigh; brother, Chris (Jennifer) Duncan of Eldridge, Iowa; niece and nephew, Jack and Brianne Duncan; longtime friend, Laurie DePoorter; dogs, Myla and Emma; and cats, Baxter and Luna. He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Duncan; step-son, Jeffrey Custer; parents, Joseph and Karen Duncan; and a brother, Michael Utter.
