Shawn Altemeier

Shawn “Cubby” Altemeier, 52, of Taylor Ridge, Illinois, died Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics.

Services to celebrate Shawn’s life are Saturday, July 29, 2023, beginning with visitation from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12^th Street, Moline, with a time of sharing for family and friends beginning at 3:00 p.m.  The celebration will continue at Riverfront Grille, Rock Island, beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Private burial is at Chester Cemetery, Grinnell, Iowa.

William Shawn Altemeier was born March 17, 1971, in Davenport, Iowa, to Clyde and Virginia (Longley) Altemeier.  He served in the U.S. Navy and earned a bachelor’s degree from Buena Vista University.  He married the love of his life, Tammy Hansen, on August 3, 1991, in Rock Island, Illinois.

Shawn worked as a heavy equipment operator for IUOE Local 150, Rock Island.  He enjoyed making others happy by cooking and organizing the next get-together.  He loved sports, hunting and training dogs, and going on spontaneous adventures.  Above all else, family was the most important thing to Shawn, and his proudest title was “Papa”.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Tammy; three children, Taylor (Brandon) Smith of LeClaire, Iowa, Kayla Altemeier of Davenport, and Alac Altemeier, currently stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; three grandchildren, Payton, Cameron and River Smith; his mother, Virginia “Ginny” Altemeier of Bettendorf, Iowa; sisters, Nikki DeFauw of Davenport, and Lynette Rodriguez of Salinas, California; and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.  He was preceded in death by his father, Clyde “Tiger” Altemeier.
