The former Sarah Ann Johnson was born May 26, 1944, in Kewanee, Illinois, the daughter of Evans and Norma (Craig) Johnson. She was raised in Galva, a place that remained close to her heart throughout her life.
Sarah began her career as a telephone operator for the phone company in Galva. After relocating to Rock Island, she served in the same capacity at AT&T until her retirement. A talented musician, she also served as a church organist for several congregations over the years.
On May 26, 1981, Sarah married the love of her life, Timothy Edward Lage, in Rock Island. They shared 42 wonderful years together until his passing on July 5, 2023.
Known for her warm heart and vibrant spirit, Sarah formed lasting friendships wherever she went—beginning in Galva, continuing in Rock Island, through her career at AT&T, and even during her time at the nursing home. Thursdays were sacred to her and her cherished “Lunch Bunch,” a tradition that brought her great joy. She had a passion for antiques and decorating, with her beautifully kept home in Rock Island receiving local recognition.
Family was everything to Sarah. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, always maintaining close connections regardless of distance. Her love for family traditions—especially Christmas Eve celebrations—was unwavering.
Sarah is survived by her children, Noelle (Jeff) Bigalk and Tina (Bill) Pepper, both of Davenport; Todd (Jeanne) Nelson of Cream Ridge, New Jersey; and Craig Nelson of Rock Island; nine grandchildren, Zachary, Chad, Shelby, Max, Spencer, Aubri, Tobi, Lexi, and Cooper; great-grandchildren, Francis, Ambrose, Hensley, Devan, and Cash; siblings, Jim (Joyce) Johnson of Moline, and Rebecca (Pat) Duytschaver of Galva; her niece, Jill (Doug) Wangler, and her children, Mitch and Cali Wangler. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Tim; and her nephew, Greg Johnson.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the entire staff at Celebrate of Moline for their exceptional care and kindness.
