Ruth M. Harkless

Ruth M. Harkless, 63, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed Wednesday, June 3, 2026, at Arcadia Care at Rock Island.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family.

Ruth Mildred Harkless was born on January 4, 1963, in Rock Island, Illinois, the daughter of Arthur and Marianna (Anderson) Harkless Sr. She graduated from Sherrard High School and pursued a career in modeling.

She was a member of St. Anthony’s Church in Rock Island. Ruth enjoyed exercising, the occasional cannabis session, and listening to rock ’n’ roll, especially Ozzy Osbourne, Alice in Chains, and KISS. More recently, she became a fan of Netflix after her daughter introduced her to The Witcher, which she enjoyed because of the “nice butt” in leather pants. In truth, she had a particular appreciation for men in leather pants.

Ruth loved spending time with family, keeping everyone on their toes, and making people laugh with her quick wit and playful sense of humor. She lived life on her own terms and will be remembered for her vibrant personality, honesty, and the joy she brought to those around her.

Ruth is survived by her children, Lorren Kirby of Silvis, Illinois and Jason Harkless of Rock Island, Illinois; grandchildren, Eden, Ray, Rowan, Emmalynn, Mason, Kimberly, and Cason; two great-grandchildren; siblings, Orphajean Hasson of Rock Island, Illinois and Arthur Harkless Jr. of East Moline, Illinois; nieces and nephews, Donnie, Danny, Ricky, Timmy, Jeff (Vicki), Matt, Bob, Joe, Krissie, Brandy, and Nicky; many great-nieces and great-nephews; and many other family members and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur and Marianna Harkless Sr.; sisters, Kay Henry, Linda Walsh, and Barbara Harkless; brothers, Richard Harkless, Johnny Harkless, and Reginald Harkless; and a nephew, Dwaine Hasson.
