Ruth Gamble

March 18, 1912 — February 22, 2004

Rock Island, Illinois Ruth Gamble, 91, of Rock Island, formerly of Moline, died Sunday, February 22, 2004, in Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on March 18, 2004, in the chapel at Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Entombment is in Riverside Mausoleum. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association or Friendship Manor. Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, is in charge of arrangements. Ruth was born March 18, 1912, in Fairmont, Minnesota, the daughter of Arthur Ward and Fannie (Bomboy) Gamble. She was a secretary at John Deere Planter Works for 28 years, retiring in 1971. She was a member of First Congregational Church, Moline, and South Park Tennis Club. Ruth was a tall, slender, understated, soft-spoken woman who was quite an athlete. At age 65, she took up tennis, and played three or four times a week into her 80's. When she was 75, she and five friends white-water rafted 100 miles down the Colorado River. They went early in June to be sure the river would be high and full of rapids. She spent a fair amount of time walking the Ben Butterworth Parkway and swimming laps in the Moline pool. Ruth enjoyed classical music, bridge, and cooking. She was a casual, peaceful person, whose motto in life was "live and let live." Her friends enjoyed her company and recognized her for the special unique person she was. Ruth is survived by brothers, John Gamble of Orangeburg, South Carolina, and Robert Gamble of Fallbrook, California; a niece, Martha Flint of Worcester, MA, and a nephew, Wicker Gamble of Fallbrook. She was preceded in death by a sister, Jean Hill. Remembrances and condolences may be shared with the family at www.TrimbleFuneralHomes.com. END OF OBITUARY
