Ronald E. Herstedt, 84, of Moline, Illinois, died Thursday, October 14, 2022, at Promedica in Moline.
Visitation is from 9 to 10 a.m. Thursday, followed by a funeral service at 10 a.m., in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park. Friends are invited to join the family at a funeral luncheon at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe following the burial. Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospitals or Compassus Hospice.
Ronald Edward Herstedt was born December 10, 1937, in Moline, to Edward and Catherine (Needham) Herstedt. He married Loretta Jean Bauwens on July 12, 1963, in East Moline. She died December 29, 2001. He served in the Illinois National Guard from 1957 to 1963, and worked as a welder and set-up man at Case IH, East Moline, for 33 years, retiring in 1990. He was a member of the Rock Island Conservation Club, was an avid fisherman, and enjoyed hunting and going to the casinos. He was an a-1 mechanic, built several houses, and could fix anything.
Ron is survived by sons, Kevin Herstedt and his wife Courtney of Davenport, and Sean Herstedt of Moline; a granddaughter, Bella Herstedt; a brother, Wayne Covault and his wife Carolyn of Louisville, Kentucky; and his companion for 20 years, Jan Carroll of Davenport. He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, and sisters, Betty Crippen and Sally Setser.
