Roger D. Hutchins, 78, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Monday, July 27, with his family by his side.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. There will be no public services. Memorials may be made to Quad City Animal Welfare Center.
Roger Dean Hutchins was born May 21, 1948, in Davenport, the son of Chester and Leanore (Scott) Hutchins. He graduated from Aledo High School and went on to marry his friend, Cindy Parkinson, on July 10, 1977, in Aledo.
Roger dedicated more than four decades as a letter carrier with the United States Postal Service, retiring in 2009. Alongside his career, he spent many years farming with his father-in-law, "Parky."
A gifted athlete, Roger was an outstanding baseball player in high school before becoming a respected competitor in the local softball community for many years. Whether on the diamond or in the stands cheering on his St. Louis Cardinals, Roger's love of the game never faded.
More than anything, Roger cherished his family. He looked forward with great anticipation to welcoming a second grandchild and delighted in watching the next generation of his family grow.
His quiet strength, unwavering work ethic, and love for the land will be remembered by all who knew him.
Roger is survived by Cindy; three sons, Adam Hutchins of Woodstock, Illinois, Alexander (Michaël Christophe) Hutchins of Paris, France, and Andrew (Ana) Hutchins of Dallas, Texas; his grandson, Aidan Hutchins; a brother, John (Jessica) Hutchins; sister, Ruth Ripka; sisters-in-law, Janet Hutchins and Lisa Parkinson; and several nieces and nephews.
