Robert D. Gilmore

February 3, 1970 — April 24, 2024

Moline, Illinois

Robert D. “Rob” Gilmore, 54, of Moline, Illinois, teed off for the great golf course in the sky on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, after playing a challenging 18 holes against Multiple Sclerosis. He made a graceful exit from the fairway of life at home with his wife, Danielle, who faithfully caddied by his side throughout his battle.

In true Star Wars fashion, services to celebrate Rob’s life will be Saturday, May 4, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline.  The celebration will begin with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. immediately followed by a time of sharing for family and friends at 11:00 a.m.  Memorials may be made to Birdies for Charity.

Born on February 3, 1970, in Moline to Robert Edward and Patricia Alice (Andress) Gilmore, Rob lost his mom early in life and was raised by his Uncle Dan and Aunt Patsy Andress. A proud 1988 graduate of Geneseo High School, he went on to marry the love of his life, Danielle Edgington, on June 19, 1998, in Rock Island. Together they navigated the bunkers and birdies of life.

Rob worked as an Assistant Golf Professional at numerous clubs in Chicago, Indianapolis, and at Oakwood Country Club in Coal Valley.  He played as one of the Pros in the Monday Pro-Am for the Quad City Classic and won 3rd place!  He was also manager for KB Toys in Davenport for several years.

Rob was a die-hard Miami Dolphins fan, suggesting his tolerance for disappointment was as strong as his golf swing. He also enjoyed the NHL (especially the Chicago Blackhawks), and playing fantasy football.  A fanatic of both Star Wars and Star Trek, Rob also had a soft spot for Pink Floyd, and his TV was permanently tuned to Channel 6, except when Shark Tank or PGA golf commandeered the remote.

Above all else, Rob loved spending time with his loving wife, Danielle, who stood by his side to the very end.  On a related note, Rob's voice-activated "other woman", Alexa, is rumored to be in deep mourning and possibly on eBay by the time you read this.

Rob is survived by his beloved wife, Danielle; two sisters, Lori Gilmore and Kelly Happel; his aunt, Patsy Andress; his cousin, Michelle Vanlerberghe; Danielle’s parents, Dan and Marsha Edgington; Danielle’s siblings, Chris (Letha) Edgington and Kelly (Nate) Drish, and their families; and his two loving cats, George and Gracie.   He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother-in-law, Ed Happel; his uncle, Dan Andress; and his cousin, Ronnie Andress.

The family would like to give special thanks to everyone at Hospice Compassus for the wonderful care given to Rob in his final days, and invites friends to share stories and condolences at TrimbleFuneralHomes.com.
