Robert R. Aitken

Robert R. (Dick) Aitken, 96, of Silvis, IL died Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at New Perspective, Silvis.

Private Burial will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery. Cremation will take place prior to burial at Trimble Pointe, under the Direction of Trimble Funeral Home, Moline.

Dick was born in Moline on April 2, 1927, the son of William and Ruby (Inglish) Aitken. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the United States Navy aboard the USS William P. Biddle. He married Carol Mefford on March 5, 1949 in Springfield, IL. They enjoyed fishing and spending time at the family’s cabin in Conesville, Iowa. He enjoyed watching the Chicago Cubs and going to their games.

Dick worked construction for 43 years, retiring in 1989. He belonged to Aldersgate United Methodist Church, now Riverside UMC.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Carol; daughter, Laury Heckenkamp; and grandson, Kevin Depies. He is survived by his daughter, Kathy (Jim) Depies; son-in-law, Michael Heckenkamp; grandchildren, Erik Depies and Mitchel (Jennifer) Heckenkamp; and great-grandchildren, Jackson Depies, Sam Depies, and Cullen Heckenkamp.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Disease Research in Carol Aitken’s Memory are appreciated.
