Randall “Randy” R. Dyer, 75, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed Saturday, August 29, 2026, at his residence.
Services will be held privately at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial will take place at Rock Island National Cemetery.
Randall Rex Dyer was born on July 27, 1951, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of Rex and Dorothy (Nusbaum) Dyer. He spoke fondly of spending some of his formative years in Allerton, Iowa. Randy graduated from Rock Island High School with the Class of 1969. Soon after graduating, Randy married Linda Schaefer in 1970 and began his service to his country as a U.S. Navy Corpsman. For many years, he continued to take great pride in serving his state and country as a medic and recruiter with the Illinois Army National Guard.
For a time, Randy enjoyed fishing and woodworking, often building things for his family. He was a self-taught musician and lyricist who shared his passion for music and his versatility by playing guitar and singing in bands that performed a variety of musical genres. His favorite holiday was Christmas and he always, always wanted to make sure he provided his loved ones with thoughtful gifts. Later in life, Randy was known as a good neighbor and for caring deeply about those who showed him kindness, comforted him, and offered reassurance when he needed it.
Randy is survived by his three children, Jeff Dyer, Angie (Joe Johnson) Dyer, and Nick Dyer; grandchildren, Clayton Dyer, Haylie (Tim) Selhost, Hope (Jacob) Russell, and Mia Dyer; four great-grandchildren; and former wife and friend, Lin Skiles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rex and Dorothy Dyer; and his loving, devoted companion and dog.
