Ramonia “Mona” Tate, 71, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at home, surrounded by her loving family.
Services are 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 31, at Westside Assembly of God, Davenport, with Pastor Russell Conner officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Cremation will take place following services at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the family.
The former Ramonia Wilcox was born October 13, 1954, in De Kalb, Mississippi, the daughter of Henry Wilcox and Erma Louise Westerfield. She graduated from Davenport Central High School and went on to attend St. Ambrose in Davenport.
Mona dedicated her career to law enforcement, serving many years as a correctional officer. This was never “just a job” to her—she helped create numerous programs within the prison system and positively impacted countless lives throughout her career. The greatest testament to Mona’s character was the dignity and respect she showed to everyone, regardless of their background or past. It was not uncommon for her to encounter former inmates in the community who would share how her compassion and guidance helped change the course of their lives after their release.
In addition to her work as a correctional officer, Mona also served as a police officer in Scott County and worked in several capacities at Rhythm City Casino. Outside of work, she enjoyed reading, watching movies, creating plays, and traveling. She cherished time spent with her family. While she was generous and selfless by nature, Mona also had a competitive streak—especially when it came to cards, board games, and video games—and she rarely let anyone else win.
Mona is survived by her loving children, Francesca “Donyale” (Roosevelt Jackson) Wilcox-Jackson of Davenport, Simeon Tobias “Toby” Tate of Madison, Wisconsin, Letha Knox, and Henry Rush; daughter-in-law, Rachel Almquist; a host of grandchildren, including Paris and Rome Watkins, Consuela Jackson, Rodney McBride, Jr., Centira Maid, Taion Rush, and Alonzo Wilkinson; sisters, Sandra Conner and Rosalind Wilcox; bonus daughter, Everlon Liddell; bonus sisters, Dessie Burge-Hines and Vanessa Benson; and numerous other family members and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; sons, Samuel Nehemiah Rush and Aquarius Lee Wilkinson; and her beloved great-granddaughter, Azora Jada Marie Richmond.
