Peggy Joyce Rowland, 96, of Port Byron, Illinois, passed away on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at her home with her family by her side.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, under the direction of the Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.
Peggy was born on September 19, 1929, in London, England, to George and Rachel (Davis) New. In her early twenties, Peggy came to the United States to be a nanny for a senator from Minnesota. In the early ’60s, she moved to Shreveport, Louisiana, to work as an office manager with Thompson Hayward Chemical Company, later transferring to Davenport in the ’70s. Peggy retired from Sims LP in Moline in 1991.
Peggy was united in marriage to George Rowland on February 14, 1976. She was an avid collector of many types of figurines and American art depicting life in the country. Peggy and George were very active with the Port Byron Library. The couple played Jack and Mrs. Frost every Christmas until they were no longer able due to health. Peggy was generous and kind to a fault and never met a stranger. She was one of a kind and loved by all who knew her. She will be missed by everyone fortunate enough to have known her.
Peggy is survived by her husband, George; daughter, Randi McCann-Rowland; niece, Jennifer New; and nephew, George New.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Ray.
