Nels Robert Lindell was born February 8, 1942, in Moline, the son of Nels Gunnar and Edna Beatrice (Miner) Lindell.  He graduated from Moline High School in 1960 before bravely serving his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Following his military service, he pursued higher education and obtained his bachelor’s degree from Upper Iowa University. On February 28, 1970, Nels married the love of his life, K. Suzanne “Sudi” Bruch, in Cedar Falls, Iowa, with whom he shared many beautiful years until her passing on November 1, 2006.

Throughout his professional career, Nels dedicated 37 years of service to John Deere, retiring on April 1, 2001, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and dedication to his craft.

Nels was an active member of Edgewood Baptist Church, where his faith guided his life's journey. His commitment to serving others extended beyond the church walls as he volunteered for numerous organizations, including the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, and Pregnancy Resources. He was a passionate supporter of Fellowship for Christian Athletes and played an instrumental role in establishing the FCA chapter at Blackhawk College.

Nels and Sudi's compassion knew no bounds as they selflessly served as foster parents to 70 children between 1975 and 1990 through Lutheran Social Services. Additionally, they welcomed seven exchange students into their home, enriching their lives with diverse perspectives and cultures.

Above all, Nels cherished his family, especially his beloved grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy and happiness into his life.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, David and Wendy Lindell of Ottumwa, Iowa; a daughter and son-in-law, Heidi and Jeffrey Elkins of Orion, Illinois; three grandchildren, Renee Elkins and Carley Elkins of Orion, and North Lindell of Ottumwa; and a sister-in-law, Sharon Lindell of Paragould, Arkansas.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sudi Lindell; and siblings, John Lindell, Barbara Hillyer, Carolyn Oberg, and Beverly Lindell.
