Nedra L. Baraks, 86, of Moline, Illinois, formerly of Orion, Illinois, died Thursday, July 25, 2024, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday, August 1, at Beulah Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Andrew McDonald officiating. Burial is in Coal Valley Cemetery. Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley. Memorials may be made to the church.
Nedra Lucienne Hulsey was born June 13, 1938, in Davenport, Iowa, to Lester and Mildred (Waller) Hulsey. She married John “Jack” Baraks on October 14, 1956, in Wesley United Methodist Church, Moline.
After living in Coal Valley and Coyne Center, the couple built the house of their dreams in Orion on 10 acres. In 1978, Nedra began to work at Union Federal Savings and Loan in Orion, retiring in 2003.
Nedra was an active member of Beulah Presbyterian Church for nearly 60 years, serving as an elder, recording secretary, Sunday school teacher, choir member, and serving on many committees. She enjoyed baking her famous “Nedra Cookies”, which she was happy to share with her friends and family members on holidays and special occasions.
Nedra and Jack showed Shetland and Hackney Ponies for over 50 years. She loved her many ponies, cats and dogs. Nedra was thankful for her 50-plus year friendship with Lowes Schmidt, who provided compassionate care and companionship.
Nedra is survived by two sons, Marcus (Nancy) Baraks of Pittsboro, North Carolina, and Gregory (Lori) Baraks of Sealy, Texas; grandchildren, Jacob and Johnathan Baraks, Jennifer Combs, Melissa Hughes, and John Michael Kepley; great-grandchildren, Charlie and Shelby Baraks, and Micah, Ethan, Mary, Sadie Jo, Thad, Nolan, Belle, Sammie, and Zachary; sister-in-law, Jan Husley of Raleigh, North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack; sister, Pat; and brother, Tom.
