Nancy Hughes

Nancy Hughes, 87, of Rock Island, Illinois, passed Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at her residence surrounded by family.

Services are 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 30, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with Pastor Dennis Butler officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to services. A repass will held at the Greater Antioch Baptist Church, in Rock Island, Illinois. Cremation will take place following services at Trimble Crematory.

Nancy Hughes was born March 30, 1939, in Louisville, Mississippi, the daughter of Ella Mae Mickeal. She graduated from High School and dedicated 25 years of service as a chef at the NCO Club on the Rock Island Arsenal. She also worked for 10 years at Bucks Tap and 21 years at Rainbow Inn.

She was known for her incredible cooking, and nearly everything she made was unforgettable. She brought her southern cooking to the Quad Cities, where family and friends always looked forward to her famous head cheese, greens, and potato salad. Beyond the kitchen, she enjoyed fishing, traveling, and sharing laughter with those around her. Before her health declined, she made yearly trips down south to visit family and reconnect with her roots.

Nancy is survived by her son, Julius (Michele) Hughes of Rock Island, Illinois; granddaughter, Domonique Struble; great-grandchildren, Syncere Bester and Kylo Hughes; siblings, Maggie Thompson, Fenton (Mae) Mickeal, Harrison Mickeal (Caroline), and Mattie Mickeal; bonus siblings, Rudolph Hall Sr. and Christine Waldrip; special friends, Evelyn and Ernie; the Hall family; and many others, along with nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her life partner of 21 years, Jimmie Nettles Jr.; her parents; siblings, Elestene, Carrie Ann, and Harold; and her bonus mother, Vinney Johnson.
