Michael W. Smith, 71, of Moline, Illinois, died unexpectedly Saturday, December 24, 2022, in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Visitation is one hour prior to services, which are at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 6, 2023, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Michael William Smith was born September 23, 1951, in Rock Island, Illinois, the son of William and Audrey (Noble) Smith. He graduated from Rockridge High School and St. Ambrose University in Davenport. He married the love of his life, Penney Mullen, on May 4, 1974, in Moline.
Mike worked for John Deere Harvester in East Moline, retiring in 2011. He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, East Moline, and UAW Local #865. He enjoyed restoring antique automobiles and farm equipment, gardening, hunting, and raising horses. He also loved running and was proud to have twice competed in the Boston Marathon.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Penney; a son and daughter-in-law, Dr. Stephen W. and Heather Smith of Viriginia Beach; a daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Matthew Boyle of Chicago, Illinois; two grandchildren, Caroline and Henry Smith; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Patricia and John Churuvia, and their family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his in-laws, Coy and Jean Mullen.
