Melissa K. Smith, 58, of Bettendorf, Iowa, passed, Monday, September 15, 2025, at MercyOne Genesis Davenport Medical Center.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.

Melissa Kay Erwin was born March 9, 1967, in Moline, Illinois, the daughter of Bobby Gene and Adele Esther (Carstens) Erwin, Sr. She earned her associate degree and was working toward her bachelor’s. Melissa devoted 28 years to SSAB in Muscatine, Iowa, and had just begun her well-deserved retirement at the start of this month. She married Michael Smith on March 10, 2013, in Byron, Illinois.

Melissa was easygoing and kind, with a gift for making everyone feel welcome. She loved bowling and singing her heart out at karaoke. Riding motorcycles with her husband brought her great joy. An amazing cook, Melissa’s pies were legendary, and she had a special talent for ensuring no one ever went hungry. Whether preparing a meal for a few or for a crowd, everyone was always well cared for.

Melissa is survived by her husband, Michael Smith; step-children, Sean, Kyle, and Kristen Smith; step-granddaughter, Cora Lee Smith; sister, Denita Stoker; nephew, Mark Ballou, and mother-in-law, Sandra Drexler. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Her kindness, laughter, and the love she shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew her, a beautiful legacy that will never be forgotten.
