Mary E. Junkin, 99, of Alpha, Illinois, formerly of Coal Valley, Illinois, died Saturday, September 27, 2025, at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline, Illinois. She was 87 days away from 100.
Private graveside services are at Rock Island National Cemetery, under the direction of Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley.
The former Mary Elizabeth Brown was born December 23, 1925, in Galesburg, Illinois, the daughter of Verbon and Amy (Swanson) Brown. She married Jack Roenfeldt, Richard Wolfe, and most recently Herbert Junkin in 1959. Herbert died May 25, 2006.
Mary worked as a beautician, owning and operating Mi Beauty Parlor in Coal Valley for over 25 years before retiring in 1992. She then went on to become a CNA for several years. She also worked at several area bakeries and as a cake decorator for 15 years.
She enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, ceramics, cooking, and doing things around the house like painting and remodeling.
Mary is survived by her children, Richard (Sandra) Roenfeldt of Ottawa, Illinois, Daniel (Mary Ann) Wolfe of California, Donald (Mary Ellen) Wolfe of Coal Valley, Tressa Clemens of Iowa, Ranae (Cam) Warren of Cordova, Illinois, and Amy (Richard) Launius of Coal Valley; 23 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Herbert; a daughter, Trudy Ryan; and siblings, Margaret Simms, Clarence Brown, and Robert Brown.
