Marlyce J. Cooklin, 89, of Rock Island, Illinois, died Thursday, July 13, 2023, at Good Samaritan Society, Davenport, Iowa.
Graveside Services are 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 17, at Riverside Cemetery, Charles City, Iowa. Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline. Memorials may be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.
Marlyce June Forsyth was born June 13, 1934, in Charles City, to Wilbur and Mabel (Winters) Forsyth. She married Thomas Stratton and the couple had three children prior to separating. She then married David Seal. She married John Cooklin and he preceded her in death in 2010.
Marlyce was a homemaker while her children were growing and later in life worked for many years as a handicapped vehicle driver for the City of Muscatine. She belonged to Faith United Church of Christ in Muscatine for many years. Most recently, she attended the former Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island.
She loved music, playing hand bells at church and singing with women’s barbershop. She also enjoyed sewing, including making both of her daughters’ wedding dresses. Above all else, family was the most important thing to Marlyce, and she especially loved attending her grandchildren’s graduations and other events.
Marlyce is survived by three children, Terry Stratton of Rock Island, Christa (John Zemyan) Stratton of Broomfield, Colorado, and LeAnn (Ed) Dawson of Longmont, Colorado; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Jae) Wilsted, Matthew Stratton, Benjamin (Tina) Sauter, Michele Lenne, Nicholas Dawson, and Kelsey (Teaghan) Weir; seven great-grandchildren, Samuel and Emma Wilsted, Eleanor, Felix and Ines Sauter, and Kaly and Tiago Lenne; and brothers, Duane (Karen) Forsyth of Charles City, and Dale (Judi) Forsyth of West Lafayette, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband, John Cooklin.
