On Thursday, November 30, 2023, Marks life was taken from a short and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
A Celebration of Life gathering to honor him will take place at the Celebration Center at Mississippi River Distilling in LeClaire, Iowa, on Saturday January 6, from 1-4pm. Cremation will take place prior at Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, Illinois. Memorials may be made to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House in Bettendorf, Iowa.
Mark was born October 14, 1958, in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to Robert and Dot Dorr. Kingsport, Tennessee was his hometown, attending Lynnview and Dobyns-Bennett High schools. He received his bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at The University of Tennessee, and he was a proud Tennessee Vols football and basketball fan.
He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal and retired in September 2017. In 2010, he started a fun part-time job at Mississippi River Distilling in LeClaire. He started upon their opening in 2010 and remained there until November 2023. He loved his MRDC family second to none.
Mark was a kind, funny, and genuinely caring person! Throughout life, the friendships he made lasted a lifetime - particularly with childhood friends in Kingsport. Mark lived with integrity, honesty, and kindness. His hobbies included studying the history of the music that he loved and grew up with, woodworking projects, fine cars, and playing guitar at home. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed maintaining a beautiful yard and home.
He is preceded in death by his father, Robert Dorr, who passed in 2022, and his brother, Todd Dorr. His legacy lives on in his wife and lifetime love of 17 years, Cathi Dorr; his sons, Robert Dorr, and Daniel (Megan) Dorr; their mother, Lynn Kingman; Marks mother, “Dot”; and his sister, Lisa Whitlock. He will be sorely missed by his dogs Skillet and CodyRoad.
