Marilyn J. Mix, 94, of Coal Valley, Illinois, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2026, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island.

Services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 14, at Trimble Funeral Home, Coal Valley, with Rev. Mike Kinkaid officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to 15th Avenue Christian Church or the charity of the donor’s choice.

The former Marilyn Jean Armstrong was born August 30, 1932, in Joy, Illinois, the daughter of Herbert and Helen (Schaub) Armstrong. A bright and determined young woman, she graduated as salutatorian of the 1950 class at Joy High School and went on to earn her nursing degree from St. Anthony’s School of Nursing in 1953.

Marilyn married the love of her life, William “Bill” Mix on August 22, 1954, at Joy Presbyterian Church and began a family of their own. Their 15 years together were filled with love and the joy of raising their three sons before Bill’s untimely passing on March 30, 1969, while helping Boy Scouts fill sandbags during a Mississippi River flood.

Marilyn dedicated more than 22 years to caring for others as a nurse and mental health counselor at Trinity Medical Center, retiring in 1994. Her career also included time at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Rock Island, working with the preschool program at Title I Screening, and driving a bus for Dan-A-Way.

A woman of many interests and talents, Marilyn was a longtime member of 15th Avenue Christian Church in Rock Island. She was also a life member of the PTA, Quad City Computer Club, Rock Island County Genealogical Society, and Moline Horticultural Society. She served as a Den Mother for Cub Scout Troop 118 for 10 years, giving her time and energy to generations of young people.

Marilyn enjoyed working on computers, researching genealogy, reading, gardening, quilting, and traveling. Her happiest times were spent surrounded by family and friends.

Marilyn is survived by her sons, Michael (Kenya) Mix of Davenport, and Steven Mix of Milan; and sisters-in-law, Marilyn Armstrong of Henderson, Nevada, and Lucy Armstrong of Moline. She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Jeffrey Mix in 2023; and brothers, Russell and Charles Armstrong.
