Margaret M. L. K. Egan

Springfield, Illinois Margaret M. L. K. Egan, 91, formerly of Springfield, Illinois, died Monday, March 10, 2003, in Oak Glen Home, Coal Valley, Illinois. Private graveside services will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Springfield, where she will be buried next to her late husband. Trimble Funeral Home, Moline, is assisting the family. Margaret Loretta was born May 23, 1911, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Ella Ross and James McDevitt. Orphaned, she was raised by the Kuhn family, and became Margaret Kuhn. She married James Michael Egan on November 27, 1929, at St. Agnes Church in Springfield. He died on January 27, 1982. A long-time resident of Springfield, Margaret and her husband, James (Jim), owned and operated Egan's Serv-U-Rite Grocery on West Governor Street for many years. She was a member of the Third Order of St. Francis and the Catholic Daughters of America. In Springfield, Margaret was a member of St. Agnes Church. She loved cooking, gardening, and playing cards. Margaret is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Beth and Rip O'Keefe of Coal Valley, Illinois; and grandchildren, Dr. Keegan O'Keefe of Rochester, Minnesota, Casey Egan O'Keefe of Heidelberg, Germany, and Quinn Egan O'Keefe of Ann Arbor, Michigan.
