Leonard Vincent Hayes, Jr. was born October 30, 1959, in Davenport, the son of Leonard Sr. and Ramona (Reyna) Hayes. He graduated from Davenport Central High School and went on to earn a degree in criminal justice from Kaplan University.
Tim was a jack of all trades who worked a variety of jobs throughout his life. Most recently, he was a car detailer at Lujack’s. His previous employment included Oscar Mayer, Davenport School District, Pizza Hut, and Rock Island County Waste Management. Whatever the job, Tim approached it with enthusiasm and a genuine appreciation for the people around him. He made friends wherever he went and left a lasting impression on those he worked with.
A true people person, Tim seemed to know someone everywhere he went. His children fondly remember that even a quick trip somewhere could turn into a lengthy visit as Tim stopped to catch up with friends and acquaintances. There were simply “no short visits” with Tim, and his family often found themselves waiting patiently for the conversation to wrap up. He was always willing to lend a hand to others, continuing to help those around him even as his own health began to fail.
Tim enjoyed fishing with his dad and collecting a variety of treasures, especially stained glass and Hot Wheels. He took pride in staying active and in shape, whether working out at the gym, running in preparation for the next Bix race, or riding his bike. He enjoyed keeping busy and challenging himself, but nothing meant more to him than his family. He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren, who were the greatest joy of his life.
Tim is survived by his children, Rachelle Hayes of Rock Island, and Timothy (Codi) Hayes of Davenport; his father, Leonard Hayes, Sr. of Davenport; his grandchildren, Isaiah, Craig and Keegan Vaughn, and Halie and Sofia Hayes; his great-grandson, Salem Ocampo; and his brother, Kevin Hayes of Davenport. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ramona Hayes; and siblings, Rebecca Hayes and Daniel Hayes.
