Lawrence G. Van Kampen, 84, of Moline, Illinois, died Friday, August 29, 2025, at his grandson’s home in East Moline, surrounded by his loving family.
Visitation is 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, September 2, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. The Vietnam Veterans of the Quad Cities will present military honors at 3:00 p.m. Cremation will take place following services at Trimble Crematory, with burial at Oakwood Cemetery, Geneseo, Illinois, at a later date. Memorials may be made to the family.
Lawrence Gerard Van Kampen was born July 12, 1942, in Fulton, Illinois, the son of Timothy and Katherine (Poel) Van Kampen. He served six years in the U.S. Army National Guard and went on to work for Arconic (previously Alcoa) until retirement.
Larry was a very intelligent man who enjoyed reading books and working on crossword puzzles. He never missed a Wheel of Fortune episode and relished fishing trips with his family. He was an avid college football and Kansas City Chiefs’ fan.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Judy; Judy’s children, whom he treated as if they were his own, Patty Anderson of East Moline, Albert D. Horton, Jr. of Hillsdale, Illinois, and Joseph Horton of East Moline; his loving grandsons, Jonathan (Ashlee) Tollerud, Zachary Tollerud, and Austin Tollerud, along with many other grandchildren; his children, Timothy Van Kampen, Brian Van Kampen, Julie Degen, and Karen Jackson; sisters, Arla Morrow and Barbara Postel; and brothers, Harold, Leon, and Tom Van Kampen. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Van Kampen.
