Lawrence W. Rounds, 84, of Silvis, Illinois, passed away Sunday, July 12, 2026, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa, with his loving family by his side.
Visitation is 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, July 16, with services at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 17, both in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Rev. Bev Hansen will officiate. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where the Vietnam Veterans of the Quad Cities will present military honors. The family will greet friends at a funeral luncheon immediately following burial at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church Education Fund.
Lawrence William Rounds was born March 2, 1942, in Toulon, Illinois, the son of James Matthew and Edna Mae (Cox) Rounds. He married Lynn (Gorden) Swiger on February 14, 2004, in Moline. She died March 15, 2018. Previously, he had been married to Jackie Lawrence and Nancy Terry.
Larry proudly served on the USS Macon in the U.S. Navy for four years before starting his career at John Deere Harvester Works in East Moline. He spent a total of 31 years working for John Deere, with eight years in the middle spent working as a manager at Sandy’s/Hardee’s.
A devoted member of Faith Lutheran Church in Moline, Larry faithfully led Bible studies and volunteered for TLC (The Literacy Connection) for many years. He also belonged to the USS Macon Veterans Association, Moline YMCA, and Via de Christo.
Blessed with many talents, he enjoyed painting, sketching, woodworking, and cooking. He also participated in many community races over the years, including the Bix 7, Race for the Cure, the Quad Cities Half Marathon, and the Firecracker Run. Nothing meant more to Larry than his family. He treasured every opportunity to spend time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who were his pride and joy.
Larry is survived by his children, Julie Vargas-Rounds of Cranston, Rhode Island, Ricci Rounds-Sarni of North Palm Beach, Florida, Bill (Eileen) Rounds of Reading, Massachusetts, Dr. Trisha (Brad) Smith of Silvis, Illinois, Sherry (Jay) Greenwood of Waukee, Iowa, Jonathan (Jami) Rounds of Pensecola, Florida, and Lorie (Eric) Markin of Colona, Illinois; grandchildren, Courtney (Thomas) DaCosta, Cameron Sarni, Taylor Sarni, Bridget Rounds, Jacqueline Rounds, David Smith, Emiley (Cole Johnson) Smith, Jordan (Katie) Greenwood, Hannah Butler, Juliana Rounds, Amaya Young, Serena Young, Aria Rounds, Autumn Lage, Kaitlyn (Tyler) Rogers, and Zachary (Mackenzie) Markin; two great-grandchildren, Oliver Greenwood and Hallie Rogers, with one on the way; two siblings, Dave Rounds and Margaret McClary; and his loving dog, Chewy. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Lynn; brothers, Eugene, John, Lester, and James Rounds; and sisters, Phyllis Ritenour, Ethel Armstrong, Karen DeBeir, and Ann Worlow.
