Larry C. Nelson, 71, of Davenport, Iowa, formerly of Clinton, Iowa, died Thursday, March 11, 2021, in Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, Iowa, after a short illness.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. There will be no services at this time due to Covid-19. Memorials may be sent directly to Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, 2546 Tech Drive, Bettendorf, IA 52722.

Larry Charles Nelson was born March 21, 1949, to Ernest and Ann (Engstrom) Nelson, in Savanna, Illinois, and then moved to Clinton when he was five years old. He married Sally Hartz on May 12, 1973, in Clinton. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam War, and received a Purple Heart for wounds he received in action in Vietnam. He worked as a press operator at International Paper Company for 35 years, then retired from Thomas and Betts in Clinton in 2012.

Larry enjoyed watching old westerns on TV and has a collection of western DVD’s. He loved all his pets and grand-pets which included many cats and dogs. He enjoyed traveling to National Parks and just finished visiting all five parks in the state of Utah.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sally; a daughter Christin (Tom) Geer of Apex, North Carolina; a son Nicholas Nelson (Mandy Kuhle) and grandson Adam Nelson of Moline; a sister, Linda (Rob) Menasco of Salt Lake City, Utah; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Susan Nelson.
