Lane E. McMeekan, 84, of Matherville, Illinois, died Thursday, June 5, 2025, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, Iowa City.
Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
Lane Edgar McMeekan was born September 3, 1940, in Boden, Illinois, the son of Ivan and Martha (Edgar) McMeekan. He worked as a machinist at International Harvester for over 30 years. On April 1, 1961, he married Joanne Lucas in Bettendorf, Iowa.
He was a longtime member of The Boden Church and loved spending time outdoors; whether fishing, gardening, or hunting. He had a special passion for working on trucks, especially his classic one, which he considered his prized treasure. The classics always held great enjoyement for him, especially when it came to country music. Lane enjoyed cookouts with his family and cherished time spent with his grandchildren.
Lane is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joanne; children, Rick (Christi) McMeekan, Brad (Diana) McMeekan, and Tim (Stephanie) McMeekan; grandchildren, Brian McMeekan, Abbi Wilson, Bradley McMeekan Jr., Brandie Workman, Tabbytha McMeekan, and Timmy McMeekan; 18 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Donnie Hamilton; special relatives, Billy, Amy, Abbie, & Kathy; and a host of nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Stanley McMeekan; sister, Carolyn Starman; grandson, Chad McMeekan; and a daughter-in-law, Diane McMeekan.
