Joseph E. Meierotto

August 26, 1959 — April 12, 2026

Davenport, Iowa

Joseph E. Meierotto sadly passed away on the morning of April 12, 2026. He lived over 66 years before he succumbed to cancer. He was surrounded by family and friends in hospice care for the days leading up to his departure.

Cremation will take place at Trimble Crematory, Moline, Illinois, under the direction of Cremation Society of the Quad Cities.

Joseph Earl Meierotto was born on August 26, 1959, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Joseph and Barbara (Nolan) Meierotto. He graduated from Davenport West High School in 1978, and went on to work as a Steel Mill Worker for over 22 years. He married Kelly Schultz on June 2, 1988, in Superior, Wisconsin, and the two spent a wonderful 37 years together.

First and foremost, Joe was a devoted husband, father, and all around family man who will be deeply missed and unmistakably remembered by all those who knew him.

Besides traveling and being around his kids, Joe was a sports advocate and cheered for the Chicago Bears, St. Louis Cardinals, and the Iowa Hawkeyes (especially superstar alum, Caitlin Clark). Outside of his family, one of his proudest moments was being a player on Davenport West's 1977 state football team.

Upon first glance, Joe was an intimidating man standing over 6'2" and still had a football player's physique. However, he was truly a gentle giant at heart and used his kindness, empathy, and humor (many dad jokes that were at times inappropriate but good-natured) to make all those around him comfortable and loved.

Joe is survived by his best friend and loving wife, Kelly, along with his three children, Larissa (husband Andy Skelton), Janetta, and Michael. Unfortunately, death took him too soon and he was not able to be present for his first grandson (from his daughter, Janetta, who is expecting in June). He is also survived by his siblings, Teresa (Wally) Anderson, Randy (Juli) Meierotto, Cindy Berner, and John (Lori) Meierotto.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joesph and Barbara Meierotto; a sister, Janetta Meierotto; and a brother-in-law, Denny Berner.

Truly a one-of-one, Joe made an indelible mark in his brief time on this earth; someone that will never be duplicated, but forever remembered fondly.
