John Edward Ridenour was born November 3, 1951, in Defiance, Ohio, the son of Merwin and Rose (Hasselschwert) Ridenour. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, serving one year overseas during the Vietnam War.
He married Debra Hale on September 30, 1973, in Defiance. She died April 1, 2016. He later married Sandra Minarik on May 7, 2022, in Grundy Center.
John worked at MetroLINK in Moline for over 33 years, during which time he was very active in the Union, serving as President of the Illinois Joint Conference for 27 years. He enjoyed fishing and taking road trips. Above all else, John loved spending time with his family. John was a member of Sent Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa where he served as an usher. John loved Jesus and was an example of God’s love with his servant’s heart.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra; two children, Tessa Ridenour and Jamerson Ridenour, both of Moline; five step-children, Mark (Tanya) Greiner of Holland, Iowa, Kevin (Katie) Greiner of Ankeny, Iowa, Shayla (Chris) Wedmore of Bellevue, Nebraska, Kent (Valerie) Greiner of Ankeny, and Marisa (Jeremy) Richmann of Bellevue; his beloved grandchildren, including Tremayne Ralston and Madison Taylor, along with many “bonus” step-grandchildren that he also adored. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Debra; and a sister, Mary Ridenour.
