John R. Anderson, Jr.

John R. Anderson, Jr., 77, of Moline, Illinois, passed Saturday, August 15, 2026, at MercyOne Genesis Silvis Medical Center.

Visitation will be held from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Sunday, August 30, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Graveside services will take place 11:00 a.m. Monday, August 31 at Rock Island National Cemetery, with military honors presented by the Vietnam Veterans of the Quad Cities.

John Robert Anderson, Jr. was born on March 6, 1949, in Lexington, Kentucky, the son of John Robert and Lula Mae (Harris) Anderson, Sr. He attended Paul Laurence Dunbar High School in Kentucky before joining the United States Army, where he proudly served during the Vietnam War. After returning home, John moved to Sterling, Illinois, where he began working. He dedicated more than 35 years to Tyson. He married Mary Davis on June 4, 1998, in Rock Island, Illinois.

He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church in Sterling, Illinois. He was a man of simple needs, who took pride in always looking his best. He liked to keep his car clean, his shoes shined, and his appearance just right. He enjoyed sightseeing and, more recently, began watching football.

John is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Anderson; children, Vanessa (Terry Reid) Anderson, Gina Anderson, Sharron (David Mullett) Terry, and Roshaun Terry; sister, Janice Anderson-Nuckols; grandchildren, Cecily (Keyontez) White, Caleb (Carli Frump) Moton, Tavion Taylor, Melania Taylor, Tayshaun Terry, Tyrell Taylor, Bruce Taylor, Christian Taylor, and Rayshaun Terry; and great grandchildren, Kassius, Ka’anna, Tario Taylor, Amirah Taylor, and Aura Taylor; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lola Anderson, Sr.; and siblings, Gary Anderson, Blanche Martendale, Norris Anderson, and Donna Anderson.
