Joan Hannan

Joan Elise Hannan, Esq. of Davenport, Iowa, passed away peacefully on December 13, 2023 at Silver Cross in Rock Island.

Joan was born on April 28, 1938, to Yrsa Elise (née Thomsen) and William Jay Hannan, in Davenport.  Upon graduating high school, Joan attended Grinnell College, where her love of music, especially choral music, flourished.  While in college Joan sang in a band with Herbie Hancock.  

After earning her degree, Joan was selected as a prestigious Presidential Management Intern, and moved to Washington, DC to work at the Pentagon.  There, she met and married Arthur Rosenblum, raising 3 children with him.

With her children in school, Joan found a new direction in life and put herself through the George Washington Law School.  Upon graduation, Joan spent the rest of her career working as a lawyer and eventually as an Administrative Law Judge for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. 

Joan lived life passionately, dedicating herself to the arts, learning and social justice, and touching countless souls with her quick wit and kind heart.  She was an active voice for animal rights, protection of our natural resources and service to those less fortunate.

Those left to cherish her memory include her 3 children Robin, Deborah and David; her 6 grandchildren, Erica, Cynthia, Christina, Brandon, Byron and Alicia; 3 great-grandchildren, Danielle, Ezra and Leiah; and 2 great-great grandchildren, Aubrey and Freya.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother William Jay Hannan, Jr.

Services are 10:30AM Saturday, December 23, at Trimble Funeral Home with visitation 4 to 6PM Friday. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Animal Aid Humane Society at 239 50th St., Moline, an organization she adored and supported.
