Obituary

Jeffrey H. Peterson, 80, of Bettendorf, Iowa, died Wednesday, October 21, 2026, at Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf, surrounded by family.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 26 in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, followed immediately by a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. Friends are invited to join the family for a funeral luncheon at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe. Memorials may be made to Trinity Health Foundation – Cancer Center, 2701 17th Street, Rock Island, IL 61201.

Jeffrey Howard Peterson was born January 12, 1946, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Clifford L. and Roberta J. (Morrison) Peterson.

He graduated from Moline Senior High School in 1964, where he played football, earned All-American honors as a swimmer, and showcased his theatrical talents as the Gentleman Caller in Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie. He continued his education at the University of Kansas, earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1968.

After graduation, Jeff began a 42-year career with John Deere, serving in both the Construction and Agricultural divisions in domestic and international roles. He married Jana (Miller) Dye on January 1, 1999.

After retiring in 2010, Jeff and Jana embraced life out West, enjoying fly fishing, skiing, and custom wheat harvesting. Yet Jeff’s roots remained firmly planted in Illinois. As the seventh generation of a family whose farm was homesteaded near Reynolds in 1842, he took great pride in carrying forward its legacy. Together with Jana and their family, he devoted himself to growing the operation and preserving it for future generations. The eighth and ninth generations will mark 200 years of continuous family ownership in 2042.

Jeff is survived by his wife, Jana; son, Clifford E. (Ann) Peterson; daughters, Emily M. (Ryan) Cady, Lisa M. Williams, and Sara T. Dye; grandchildren, Jack, Ella, Will, Luke, Madylin, Oskar, Liv, Gunnar, Beckett, Jacob, Zachary, Jayden, and Layla; and his brother-in-law, Mel Short. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Sally Peterson-Short.
