James G. “Jim” Sierra, 80, of East Moline, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, October 7, 2026.
A Rosary will be recited at 4:30 p.m. Friday, October 23, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, followed by visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 24, at Our Lady of Grace Parish, St. Anne Church, East Moline. Memorials may be made to the family.
Born Santiago Genaro Sierra, Jim was born September 19, 1946, in Topeka, Kansas, the son of Amador T. and Jesus “Jessie” (Vasquez) Sierra. He attended St. Anne’s Grade School in East Moline and later attended United Township High School. He remained a proud supporter of UTHS and its athletics throughout his life.
Jim married Donna Moyer and together they raised four children, (who were his pride and joy), “My Shelly”, “My Amber”, “My Nicole”, and “My Andrea”, before later separating. He began his working career as a line installer for Cox Cable before becoming a correctional officer at the East Moline Correctional Center, where he worked for 20 years before retiring.
Jim was a longtime member of St. Anne’s Catholic Church in East Moline. He enjoyed golfing and fishing, playing piks—“and don’t call it darts,” he would quickly correct you—playing Bingo, and trying his luck at the casino. He loved listening to the Beatles, watching sports, and cheering on the Alabama Crimson Tide and New York Yankees. He also enjoyed getting in the car and simply driving around, as well as going out to eat, with Saint Giuseppe’s Pizza being a particular favorite.
Above all, family was the most important thing to Jim. He often said, “I have good kids!” and he cherished the next generation of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Jim is survived by his children, Shelly (Roy) Pruett of Colona, Illinois, Amber (Sam) Lewis of Davenport, Nicole Sierra of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Andrea (Chris) Gray of Lynn Center, Illinois, and April (Richard) Starofsky; 13 grandchildren, Jessica (Brandon) Snell, Aaron Pruett, Jamie Stoneking, Jenna Stoneking, Nathan (Jessica) Sierra, Maverick Sierra, Darell (Becca Hawkins) Teague, Markell (Alexis) Sierra, and Richie, Jimmy, Joe, Brad and Jonathan; great-grandchildren, Lydia, Brandon, Margot, Alice, Bryce, Gunther, Lynnex, Mallen, Mordecai, and Amora; siblings, Peter Sierra, Veronica Houtikier, Francisco Sierra, Rita Trulson, Rev. Angel Sierra, Raymond Sierra, and Lydia Martina Castel; good friends, Stan and Judy; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Amador T. Sierra, Jr., Simon Sierra, and Paul Sierra; and a sister, Esperanza “Hope” Hay.
