James Warren Goode was born December 27, 1950, in Ottumwa, Iowa, the son of Warren and Vera (Eakins) Goode. On October 24, 1970, he married the love of his life, Sharon Hall, in Coal Valley. Together, they shared more than 55 years of marriage, building a beautiful life centered around their family. They were blessed with two children, Christina and Seth, and Jim’s greatest pride and joy was watching his family grow to include his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jim and Sharon also enjoyed traveling together, especially their trips to Maui.
He worked at the John Deere Parts Distribution Center in Milan for 30 years before retiring in 2003.
Jim had a deep love for nature and took great pride in the family’s 15 acres, where he designed and built their home, was a master gardener, and spent countless hours on his tractor. He enjoyed watching the birds, especially the hummingbirds that visited his feeders, loved his and his family's dogs, cheered faithfully for the Illini, and was always happy to give a ride to a little one on his shoulders, or to loved ones on his beloved three-wheeler. Most of all, Jim loved sharing the land with others. Family and friends were always welcome, and the home and land he created became a special place to gather, enjoy the outdoors, and make lasting memories together.
Above all else, Jim treasured his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather (earning him title of “Papa” and “Jimmy Pop”), brother, and friend who will be remembered for the love he gave so freely.
Jim is survived by his wife, Sharon; his daughter and son-in-law, Christina “Christi” and Mike Marxen of Colona, Illinois; his son and daughter-in-law, Seth and Kelly Goode of New Windsor; seven grandchildren, Cole (Bailey) Marxen, Maddie Marxen, Gabe Marxen, Payton Goode, and Garrett, Hayden and Kacie Gleason; five great-grandchildren, Bradlee, Bella, Cohen, Violet, and Seth; siblings, Sharon (Tom) Peters and Bruce Goode, both of Coal Valley; sisters-in-law, Margo Hall, Katie Hall, Deb (John) Cornelis, and Mindi (Mike) Timm; good friends, Milton and Brenda DeShane; and many special nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers-in-law, Ross and Brian Hall; his nephew, Josh Hall; and his dogs, Harley and Jax.
