J. Delores Rutherford

October 1, 1937 — November 8, 2025

Moline, Illinois

Jane Delores Hackett Rutherford, 88, peacefully passed into eternity on November 8, 2025, after a courageous 38-year battle with cancer. Her faith in Christ guided her every step. She will be remembered for her love for God’s Word and for the many ways she served her family, church, and community.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 13, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, November 14, at Riverside United Methodist Church, Moline. Burial will follow at Moline Memorial Park. Following services a hospitality gathering will be held at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe. Memorials may be made to the Church or River Bend Food Bank.

Delores and her identical twin sister, Joy Deliece, were born October 1, 1937, in Tuscola, Illinois, to Lowell and Helen (Alexander) Woodall. Delores married her high school sweetheart, Robert J. Hackett, on June 16, 1957, in Tuscola, Illinois. They were devoted to each other until Bob’s death in February of 1992. She was blessed to find true love a second time, when she married James Rutherford on October 4, 1997, in Moline, Illinois.

She put her faith into action by teaching Sunday School, singing in the church choir, corralling 70+ teenagers as a church youth group counselor, serving as Women’s Ministry President, and in Christian Woman’s Club. She also led many Bible studies in her church and in her home. Her passion for others led her to initiate the Sunday Dinner Ministry and the Wardrobe Clothing Ministry, as well as lead two GriefShare support groups at her beloved Riverside United Methodist Church. Most recently she worked tirelessly reviving the church library.

She attended Illinois Wesleyan University, where she developed the skills necessary to pursue her secretarial career. She worked as secretary to the Superintendent of Schools in Tuscola, Illinois, and the Moline High School Athletic Director. However, she considered her role as homemaker her most important profession. Growing up on a farm in Camargo, Illinois, she learned the value of hard work and prioritizing family mealtimes with delicious homecooked food and treats.

Delores was a skilled writer. Her cancer journey memoir, To Send A Dove, was published in 2000. It continues to bring hope to all who read it.

Delores is survived by her loving husband of 28 years, Jim Rutherford; her children, Diana (Kurt) Olson, Tammy (Gary) Hewitt, Terry (Anne) Hackett, Barb (Jon) France, Debbie (Rob) Smiley, and Donna (Tom) Lawrence; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; nephew, Mark (Gail) Crouse; niece, Laura (Don) Rudder; and step-brother, Bill (Donna) Stutz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob; her twin sister, Deliece Crouse; brother-in-law, Dick Crouse; her parents, Lowell and Helen Woodall; step-mother, Dana Woodall; and great-granddaughter, Adalynn Grace Slater.
