Herman A. “Tony” Smith, 67, of Eldridge, Iowa, formerly of Rock Island, Illinois, well-known local musician, died Tuesday, May 2, 2023, in Genesis East Medical Center, Davenport, Iowa.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial is in Rock Island National Cemetery, where Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is 2 to 5p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established.
Herman Anthony Smith was born November 15, 1955, in Moline, to Herman Hoyt and Elaine (Green) Smith. He served in the US Navy and married Sheila Williams on May 27, 1989, in Moline. He was HDM Program Assistant at Project Now, Rock Island, and previously worked in the heating plant at the Rock Island Arsenal for 32 years. He loved music, especially guitar, and played in several local bands, including Straight Up, Southern Thunder, and North of 40. He enjoyed Star Wars and Star Trek, and was an avid reader, especially science fiction.
Tony is survived by his wife, Sheila; three children and their spouses, Patches Fessel of Davenport, Jeremy Smith and David Guerrieri of Columbus, Ohio, and Steve and Leslie Smith of Davenport; two step children, Mike Atkinson of Davenport and Melissa and Les Eichmeier of Eldridge; ten grandchildren; and three great-grand-children. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Ricky Smith.
