Harley Schweigert, 83, of Davenport, Iowa, died Thursday, November 23, 2023, in his home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Burial with military honors presented by Moline American Legion Post #246 will be in Rock Island National Cemetery. Visitation is one hour before the service. Memorials may be made to the family.
Harley Henry Schweigert was born October 3, 1940, in Mobridge, South Dakota, to Christian Henry and Irene Alma (Meish) Schweigert. He served in the US Navy from 1958 to 1961. He married Theresa Noyes in 1963, in Seattle, Washington. He married Mary Kuehl in 1977, in Davenport. She died May 10, 2020.
Professionally, Harley dedicated years of hard work as a machinist, contributing his skills to esteemed companies such as Production Tool, Oscar Meyer, and French and Hecht. His commitment and expertise left a lasting impact on those he worked with.
Harley was not only a devoted family man but also a proud Navy veteran, holding membership in the VFW in Oklahoma. He had a zest for life, finding joy in the simple pleasures. Harley had a passion for exploring flea markets and trying his luck at the casino. His eyes would light up as he recounted tales of his motorcycle rides from his younger days and shared stories of his cherished car collection.
Above all, Harley cherished his time with family, especially with his children and grandchildren. He was a social butterfly, known for his infectious laughter and a repertoire of jokes and stories that could brighten any room. His warm spirit and love for life will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Harley is survived by seven children and spouses, Ann and Donald Reynolds of Lawton, Oklahoma, Diane and Gary Utley of Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Kenneth Schweigert of Wewoka, Oklahoma, Arlene Stone of Goltry, Oklahoma, Gail and David Jackson of Konawa, Oklahoma, Dawn Schweigert of Davenport, and Tim and Ashley Schweigert of Davenport; three step-children and spouses, Darla and Dan Capes of Effingham, Illinois, Sherry and Dennis Cole of Davenport, and Stacy Morgan of Milan, Illinois; 37 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and siblings and spouses, Gary and Kathy Schweigert of Freeport, Illinois, Todd and Doris Schweigert of Sacramento, California, cJane and Harlen Maita of Elk Grove, California, and Frank and Donna Schultz of Lodi, California. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Frak Schultz, Sr.
