Gerald W. “Jerry” Blunt, 95, of East Moline, Illinois, died Sunday, October 15, 2023, at UnityPoint Health – Trinity Rock Island.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Monday, October 23, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Rev. Santina Poor officiating. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park, where the Moline American Legion Post #246 will present military honors. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Memorials may be made to Hope UCC, Moline, where he was a member.
Gerald Walter Blunt was born January 31, 1928, in Moline, the son of Howard W. and Katherine (Scherer) Blunt. He married Leona “Lee” Glassman on September 4, 1948, in Rock Island. She died September 16, 2022.
Jerry was employed at John Deere Harvester, where he served for 37 years, ultimately retiring in 1985 as a Quality Insurance Inspector. His unwavering commitment to excellence left a lasting legacy. After retirement, Jerry and Lee embarked on a new chapter of their life in Holcombe, Wisconsin, where they embraced their community wholeheartedly. Jerry actively participated in the Lake Holcombe Improvement Association, Lake Holcombe Senior Citizens Club, Fishing Has No Boundaries, and continued to find spiritual solace at Hope United Church of Christ in Moline.
He had an abiding love for coin collecting, an unwavering dedication to environmental protection, and an unyielding enthusiasm for playing cards of any kind. His love for traveling allowed him to explore the world, but his heart was always at home with his family. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, Jerry's gentle smile and quiet demeanor provided solace and warmth to all who had the privilege of knowing him. He had a special place in his heart for his nieces and nephews and often had a grandchild sitting on his lap or riding along behind him on the lawn tractor. His presence will be profoundly missed.
Jerry is survived by four children and spouses, Gerald Blunt, Julie and Gregory Tschopp, David and Barbara Blunt, and Caryl Eicksteadt; grandchildren, Chad (Gretchen) Blunt, Tina (Michael) Hayes Caressa Swann, Nathan Blunt, Daniel (Sarah) Eickstaedt, Phillip (Juli) Blunt, Carey (Steve) Stockton, Cassandra (Keiji) Szalo, Alexander Tschopp, and Tyler (Heidi) Tschopp; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife; grandson, Jason Blunt; brothers, Howard, Herman “Buddy” and Dudley Blunt; and sisters, Margaret Dodd, Helen Race, Clarice Cramblet, and Katherine Tice.
The family would like to give special thanks to Pastor Santina and the volunteers at Hope UCC for their monthly visits to Mom and Dad, and to the wonderful staff at Park Vista.
