George J. Garvey, 78, of Milan, Illinois, died Saturday, April 30, 2022, at home.
Services are 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 4, in the Horizon Room at Trimble Funeral Home at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline, with The Rev. David C. Anderson officiating. Visitation is one hour prior to services. Burial is in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Davenport, where the Vietnam Veterans of America Quad Cities Chapter #299 will present military honors. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in George’s memory.
George John Garvey was born June 23, 1943, in Davenport, Iowa, the son of Thomas Patrick and Margaret (Wiggers) Garvey. He was a proud U.S. Air Force Veteran, serving in the Vietnam War. He owned and operated Tri-County Furniture Repair, retiring in 2010.
He enjoyed being outdoors, fishing and camping. He also loved Westerns, Clint Eastwood movies, yelling at telemarketers, and was an avid Green Bay Packers’ fan. Above all else, family was the most important thing to George.
George is survived by seven children, Michael Diane (Don) Hernandez, Matthew Garvey, and Mark Alan (Mary) Garvey, all of Austin, Texas, Amber Downing of Milan, Jessica (Robert) Meyer of Moline, Richard (Trisha) Downing of Milan, and Ashley Garvey of Milan; 11 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Patricia (Paul) Jimenez of Davenport. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Melissa Garvey; and a brother, Bill Garvey.
