Obituary

Gary L. Zillyette, Jr., 50, of Davenport, Iowa, passed away Monday, October 12, 2026, at Harmony Davenport.

Friends are invited to celebrate Gary’s life with his family at a hospitality gathering with food and drinks from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday, October 24, at CityView Celebrations at Trimble Pointe, 701 12th Street, Moline. Memorials may be made to the family for a fund to be established in Gary’s memory.

Gary Levi Zillyette, Jr. was born June 21, 1976, in Des Moines, Iowa, the son of Gary L. Zillyette Sr. and Rhonda Rees. In 2018, he found love with Renee Eggermont, and the two shared many wonderful memories together, including motorcycle road trips and countless good times. Although Gary faced numerous health challenges throughout much of their relationship, their love and the life they shared remained a meaningful part of his journey.

Gary spent 17 years as a truck driver before more recently joining TanTara Transportation in Muscatine. He enjoyed his work there as a truck mechanic and parts and service advisor, bringing his experience and knowledge to a field he knew well.

A passionate model railroader, Gary shared his enthusiasm for the hobby with others by creating dozens of episodes of his podcast, Model Railroad Talk, from 2023 to 2025. He also dedicated his time to serving others as a volunteer firefighter with the Saylor Township, Riverdale, and Coralville Fire Departments.

He is survived by his significant other, Renee Eggermont; his children, Gavin and Jenna Zillyette; Renee’s mother and step-father, Marianne Alvarado and Dave Beeman; Renee’s daughter, Montana Kalina; step-father, Jay Miller; step-brother, Chad (Manda) Miller; nephew and niece, Eli and Madeline Miller; and uncles, Bob Rees and Rodney (Vicki) Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents.
